No sleep ...

Do you ever have those nights when you'd get more sleep cuddled up with four hedgehogs all sharing a handkerchief for a cover ? Well that was us last night .. In fact most nights to be honest .. With a small boy who has trouble settling and staying asleep we often spend the night shifting like zombies through the house trying to find any surface to sleep on for a few hours .. After a busy day yesterday that involved hospital appointments , car mot's and lots of sensory overload , with which he coped incredibly well this mama noticed that as the day wore on his cheeks were getting redder and redder and boom ! In the middle of the night a temperature and a runny nose .. Reu does not do runny noses and calming him down was difficult .. Daddy was sore from needle invasion and mamma was tired .. Finally as dawn began to arrive , we got some sleep and a settled (ish) boy .. Today we are quiet ..shifting heavily getting jobs done ..very slowly ..with intermittent tea .. But oddly , I like these days ..when you are forced to go slow .. When you take time .. When the day just rolls from one sleepy hour to the next .. And mid washing fold , you stop ..inhale..and look out the window and see the sun shining off the trees and flowers .. And watch a spider sat doing exactly the same in his web ..waiting ..waiting .. Peace x

Foraged dinner...

Little Reu and I disappeared off to the end of the road to forage some dock leaves this morning .. We have a local foraging spot that sadly up until recently was over flowing with edible goodies until a local builder bought the land and cut down the lot .. To say I was disappointed was an understatement.. But he has done nothing with the land and the edibles are slowly making their way back ..Sneakily we gathered dock leaves and ran back home to make a dock and potato crust tart ..Frying off gently one onion and a clove of garlic in oil in a pan then add 1 large grated potato , then after they have coloured add in your washed and chopped dock leaves ,about a cupful and just allow them to wilt before pouring the mixture into a suitable oven proof pie or casserole dish..In a separate bowl combine 6 eggs , a cup of milk , nutmeg and salt and pepper to taste and a cupful of grated cheddar cheese or similar mix that all together and pour the mixture over the top of your greens , if you fancy you can sprinkle some Parmesan on the top of that then pop in the oven for about 20 mins until the top is cheesy golden .. Then enjoy xx oh ... And I do have permission to use the land xx

Tidying up..getting organised..

Having a little play about with the blog format here for the change in the season .. fresher , crisper, simpler.. I'm sat surrounded by my diaries , a little craft and fluffy merino in a bid to ignore house duties and focus on preparations for a Mabon weekend.. Hoping and praying that the sun stays here just for a few more days , it's been a yucky week so far .. yucky in weather and yucky in news .. We were dealt the devastating blow of a cancer diagnosis and right now , between a myriad of emotions I'm trying to prepare our family for what is set to be a difficult few months .. Remaining focused on the situation and taking the Home Ed at a slower pace and fitting in what we can , when we can.. enjoying the season .. I'm glad we are all together to heal each other .. I'm glad we have time.. time to take the days and nights at our pace .. I'm thankful for my mum's happiness in having Reu for respite so we can attend lengthy chemo sessions and thankful for the many virtual friends and real life friends that are able to listen whilst I cry , laugh , fume or whatever it takes .... Much tea is being consumed , many stories are being read .. and early nights , when the sun decides it's time to disappear .. and a new day , fresh and ready to enjoy xxx

Welcome September..

Where the ripe pears droop heavily
The yellow wasp hums loud and long
His hot and drowsy autumn song:
A yellow flame he seems to be ,
When darting suddenly from high
He lights where fallen peaches lie.

I can feel the whisper of Autumn but am not quite ready to let her come .. there's a nip in the air and the distinct smell of chimney smoke in the evening .These are the times I love , I'm a child of the Autumn and I look forward to it's return every year..The start of our Autumn term in our learning journey is exciting , this year we have mixed it up a bit .. bringing in several elements to the mixing pot.. My foraging experiences will continue but with both boys involved.I desperately want them to be aware and even more aware of the wonderful world that surrounds them .. Herb lore , folklore , natural change and our animal life .. It's strengths and it's fragility ..Rituals and gentle Rhythm  as we move towards the end of the year ..
